3 Days in Marrakesh: Mosques, Palaces and Gardens

Three days of mosques, palaces and gardens · moderate pace · March

  • 3 days
  • March
  • 12 stops
  • A couple's trip

This route reads Marrakesh as a string of quieter landmarks strung between the two busy magnets of the Koutoubia minaret and Jemaa el-Fnaa. It starts where the city is greenest, ends in the royal gardens, and in between takes in the medina's two palace complexes and its principal mosques. It is paced for a couple who like to walk slowly and stop when something catches the eye: mornings begin early, afternoons ease off, and each day closes with one unhurried stop before dinner.

Bab Agnaou and the Saadian Tombs sit minutes apart in the Kasbah quarter; keep the Agdal Gardens as a long, open close to the trip.

Good to know

Can non-Muslims enter mosques in Marrakesh?

Most working mosques, including Koutoubia Mosque and Ibn Salah Mosque, welcome visitors only to their exteriors and gardens. The Almoravid Koubba is the exception: it is a historical monument open to everyone.

When is the best time to visit Majorelle Garden?

Early morning, shortly after opening, when the paths are uncrowded and the light is still low. This itinerary schedules it first for exactly that reason.

What is the Almoravid Koubba?

A small, domed water house from the 11th century, one of the oldest monuments in Marrakesh and a rare survival from before the Almohad period.

Where are the Saadian Tombs?

In the Kasbah quarter south of Jemaa el-Fnaa, close to Bab Agnaou and El Badi Palace. The three sit near enough to see in one morning sequence.
